She was the daughter of Thomas Catlett and Martha, whose maiden name is unknown.Martha married William Hampton, who was born 09 Oct 1685 in Hampfield, Gloucester, Colony of Virginia, British Colonial America; and died before March 13, 1749/50 in Stafford, Colony of Virginia, British Colonial America. Hampton Plantation consists of the manor house named "Hampton" and the fourteen acres that remain of the original plantation. Hampton stands on a hill which is the second highest point in Calvert County. He was a wool merchant, buying wool from other Virginians and shipping it to his brother Laurence Hampton in London, who was a merchant tailor. His first property was at Old Point Comfort in Hampton near Mobjack Bay in Gloucester County, He later lived in Isle of Wight County, After 1752 William built the Hampfield plantation on the Eastermont River in Gloucester County, Virginia. He continued his career as a wool merchant, buying wool from other Virginians.
